Research
Focus of our research is on mass spectrometry in the field of lipidomics. We are partners in Research Networks (e.g. Spezialforschungsbereich LIPOTOX), which focus on molecular mechanisms and physiological consequences of lipid-related diseases. The spectrum of samples investigated ranges from biopsies, animal tissues and tissue culture, body fluids, to model organisms, such as yeast and bacteria.
We offer the following analytical support in the field of lipidomics:
- Lipid Analysis with HPLC-ESI-MS (QTOF and Triple-Quadrupole-MS)
- Analysis of fatty acids with GC-FID and GC-MS
- Analysis of lipids with LC-ELSD
- Analysis of various metabolites with GC-MS und LC-MS
- Analysis of retinol and its derivatives with HPLC and fluorescence detection
In addition to existing protocols we are developing and improving procedures for qualitative and quantitative detection of various lipid species, including rare components. The Mass Spectrometry Unit at IMB is part of the OMICS-Center Graz , in cooperation with the "Core Facility Mass spectrometry at the Center for Medical research" (ZMF) and the Institute of Molecular Biotechnology at the Graz University of Technology.
Our proteomics applications with focus on protein identification from various large-scale screens is performed in close cooperation with the Institute of Fornesic Medicine, MUG.
