Open Positions

Postdoc, PhD and TA or BMA positions are advertised publicly via the Uni Graz job portal: https://jobs.uni-graz.at/. If you have specific, personal interest and / or research projects, please email Prof. Frank Madeo (frank.madeo(at)uni-graz.at).

Master’s students in the fields of molecular microbiology, biochemistry & biomedicine, molecular biotechnology and teaching biology from the University of Graz have the opportunity to work on various ongoing scientific projects during the course of their master’s thesis and thus also to contribute directly to scientific publications. Numerous molecular biological, microbiological and biochemical methods are used in the master’s thesis. We attach great importance to independent work and the courage to “experiment”, that is, Master’s students learn to plan, document and analyze experiments independently and to interpret the results. As a rule, you should plan 9-12 months for the master's thesis (including practical work and writing the master's thesis). It is not necessary to have passed all exams or laboratory courses before starting the master’s thesis. Master’s students also have the opportunity to work as a student assistant in teaching as a paid tutor in laboratory courses during their master’s thesis.

If you are interested, please send an email to Prof. Frank Madeo (frank.madeo(at)uni-graz.at), Dr. Tobias Eisenberg (tobias.eisenberg(at)uni-graz.at), Dr. Didac Carmona-Gutierrez (carmonag(at)uni-graz.at) or Dr. Contact Christoph Ruckenstuhl (ru.ruckenstuhl(at)uni-graz.at).

Project laboratory. This is a compulsory course for students in the field of molecular microbiology of University of Graz and lasts about 6 weeks. It requires registration in the Uni Graz Online for the course “Project Laboratory Molecular Microbiology” (MOL.734_2UB).
During the project laboratory, interested students in the field of molecular microbiology can work on current research projects and thus gain their first practical experience in normal laboratory operations. The project laboratory concludes a short presentation of the research results and a written protocol.

Laboratory internships is a course for students in the field of molecular microbiology of University of Graz. Outside of the compulsory courses, we also offer interested students in their Bachelor's or Master's degree the opportunity to do a temporary internship in our laboratory. By registering for the course “Vocational Research Practice” (MOL.882_2UB) in the Uni Graz Online, ECTS can also be credited for this laboratory internship. Since these internships are relatively supervision-intensive, you should express your interest in good time.

Practical bachelor theses. Students in the bachelor’s degree in molecular biology of University of Graz have the opportunity to carry out a practical bachelor thesis. Registration for the courses “Bachelor Thesis” (MOL.606_2UB) and “Vocational Research Practice” (MOL.882_2UB) at Uni Graz Online is required.

International visiting students. We are always open for international in-coming students who want to visit and work in our lab on their Master’s or PhD theses. Please reach out directly to Prof. Frank Madeo for possibilities (frank.madeo(at)uni-graz.at).

Important note: Due to current COVID-19 restrictions and distance regulations, we are currently not able to accept all requests for internships, project laboratories, master's theses, etc. We apologize for the inconvenience!
