The key research areas of the IMB have successfully achieved high international visibility and recognition. This has been made possible through the successful acquisition of research funding in the form of Special Research Areas (SFBs), doctoral programs, DocFunds and international large-scale projects (e.g., EU projects, LeDucq projects) as well as through numerous individual stand-alone project grants. As a result, there is strong external research funding through competitive third-party funds at the IMB.
Currently, the IMB is a participates in large-scale research projects. Furthermore, the IMB takes the lead in the BioHealth Field of Excellence of the University of Graz.
Publications in journals of highest international renown as well as the bestowal of prestigious awards such as the Wittgenstein Prize, the Louis-Jeantet Prize for Medicine, the Seneca Medal for Aging Research, and membership in the US Academy of Microbiology and the US National Academy of Science by members of the institute are clear indicators of the scientific quality and success of the IMB. This excellence is also reflected in translational activities such as patents, corporate collaborations, startup ventures and scientific journals.
BioHealth is a consortium of researchers from molecular biosciences, chemistry and pharmaceutical sciences. Together we work on the molecular understanding of diseases and their interventions.
The Open Laboratory Graz is our hands-on laboratory for the field of molecular biology.
This CRC brings together the expertise of scientists from Graz and Vienna to identify the links between lipid and energy metabolism and the pathogenesis of metabolic diseases such as obesity, type 2 diabetes, non-alcoholic fatty liver/steatohepatitis and cancer.
